At ECO, 'consulting' simply means 'experienced advice' for owner builders and small builder needing construction consulting in Texas, Locally, ECO is a member of the Greater Houston Builders Association. Nationally we are members of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Drafting services are a major part of our engineering company. By combining engineering advice and the creation of construction documents (blue prints) we can support any individual or business planning to build or remodel a home or a light commercial building.  Our AutoCAD based drafting services are tuned to support a wide range of client needs from homeowners to remodelers to builders.  This can start with a simple renovation drawing for permit requirements.  Or a comprehensive redraw of a hard copy plan into AutoCAD for further modification. We often are asked to provide a major rework of an existing plan to extend or shorten a wall, room, and roof plan.

We also support changes in building systems such as a change from CMU walls to 2x6 or from 2x4 walls. Or a change from wood framing to Structural Insulated Panel construction or AAC block construction walls. Regardless of your project size, your company size, your type of construction document needs, ECO provides friendly, professional, comprehensive CAD services. ECO has supported hundreds of one-of-a-kind home builders building spec homes, retirement homes, and lake homes. Most of our projects are single custom homes being built by custom builders or by owner-builders. We also support modest multiunit projects like the photo to the right. This is of a 15 unit town house project on which we provided foundation and frame design. Why did these families and companies choose ECO? Value. To have value, ECO's consulting must save time, money, or allow a cutting edge design to be engineered and built. ECO's consulting covers two related areas - Green Building Systems and Energy Efficiency.

Although the majority of our engineering is for dimensional '2X' wood framed projects, ECO also has experience with alternate or advanced building systems. This includes AutoClaved Aerated Concrete block (AAC) construction, Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) systems, Structural Insulated Panels (SIP), Structural Concrete Insulated Panels (SCIP). ECO has direct project experience gained from multiple projects with each other these systems. This allows ECO to  explain or compare the different advantages of each system with regard to structural performance, energy performance, material cost, labor cost, durability, supplier accessibility, and ease of use.

ECO can work with your own plans, or plans provided by your architect, designer, or builder. Our aim is to you reach the best solution for the project site and for your budget. ECO can also guide your project to experienced companies and individuals like architects, builder, systems installer, manufacturers, independent construction quality inspectors. ECO's construction design consulting helps designers simplify and speed construction, increase durability, predict energy usage, and reduce operating costs though application of energy efficient building systems. As a USGBC LEED accredited professional, as of March 2008, ECO's owner is the engineer of record for three LEED residential projects and one LEED commercial projects in Texas.

In addition to architects, designers, builders, and remodelers, ECO works with 'Owner-Builders' or OBs. OBs decide to take on the significant challenge of building their own home. An OB can closely control all aspects of building a home matching their style and budget. OBs have plans drawn or will buy plans online. Some OBs have building experience and trade contacts so they only need the blueprints and engineering for permitting. But all OBs can benefit from working through experienced local Owner Builder Network organizations. OBNs provide education, financing, trade contacts, construction knowledge, and plain language advice on how to be a successful owner-builder. The OB couple in this photo wanted a 2000 sf one-story contemporary home that would be energy efficient and windstorm resistant. They chose a low maintenance concrete panel building system. ECO provided consulting, CAD design,  engineering design, and inspection services.

ECO's energy knowledge is extensive. For small projects ECO uses software developed by the DOE and EPA EnergyStar programs for energy modeling, design, and usage prediction. ECO has provided engineering services on residential solar photo voltaic systems. This photo if of a project we supported in Texas City. ECO can also support LEED* certification with on-site power generation or combined cool heat and power (CCHP) systems.     .

*USGBC LEED stands for the US Green Building Council's ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’ a national certification program for designing and constructing cleaner, more efficient, less resource intensive, and more cost effective projects.  USGBC-LEED program is active in the industrial, commercial, and residential industries. Its is strongly supported by the AIA (American Institute of Architects) and NHBA (National Home Builders Association) organizations.
