We work hard to provide framers with detailed framing solutions so they can build strong homes. We also work hard at not over-engineering, so our designs make efficient use of wood products.
Unfortunately, many framing plans are never reviewed or properly detailed by an engineer. Without a detailed review by an engineer, a framer is often left to just 'figure something out'. Normally this just involves putting in more wood members than is needed. This costs more, reduces the insulation values, and raises energy bills. This also may result in using 2x8s when 2x10s were needed, or using expensive glulam beams when 2-2x12s were okay. The worse outcome would be entirely missing a required beam and then paying an extra 5 or 10 thousand dollars to correct it later. Is that the way you want your house built? If not, get you framing reviewed by an engineer (preferably us).
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF 'FUNNY' DESIGNS (i.e. "NOT OUR WORK!"...)
